Established in November, 2019, the Hainan International Media Center is a Hainan Free Trade Port provincial-level international communications organization and international communications broadcast platform. It is operated by the Hainan Maritime Silk Road International Media Co,. Ltd., which is state-owned enterprise and a subsidiary of the Hainan Daily Group.
The Hainan International Media Center has the only “Talented International Communications Team” in the Hainan FTP and boasts the province’s most comprehensive multilingual reporting ability (including but not limited to English and Russian), and is the only mainstream media outlet in Hainan to directly employ international hosts. In order to better communicate with the world about the Hainan Free Trade Port, the Hainan International Media Center has also put together a team of Overseas Communication Officers from more than 30 countries and a first class team of international experts.
At present, the Hainan International Media Center is operating the Hainan FTP International Communications Portal www.hicn.cn. We also have more than 1,000,000 followers on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and VK. Our main news languages are English and Russian. With a strong, talented multilingual team and high-end media partners from all over the world (top communications channels in more than 200 countries and regions including the Associated Press, Bloomberg, Yonhap News Agency, Kyodo News Agency, Adnkronos, and the screens in New York’s Times Square), the Hainan International Media Center provides domestic and overseas audiences with the latest information about the Hainan Free Trade Port in several languages and has created many English language programs including "Foreigners in Hainan", "Dreamers", "Interviews with Expats on Hainan FTP", "Lara Goes Local", "This is Hainan", “This is Hainan: Discovering Mysteries”, and “Hainan Seen Through the Lens of Culture”.
Under the guidance of the Publicity Department of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, the Hainan International Media Center is developing the "333" system (which refers to developing the "three ships" of its own media, municipal and county organizations, and hosting diplomatic events, making use of the "three ships" of central media organizations, overseas media organizations, and commercial media organizations, and also developing an international communication group, an international broadcast platform, and a feedback & effectiveness evaluation system.) We are working to explore and build an international communications system commensurate with the status of the Hainan Free Trade Port so as to tell the stories of China and Hainan to the world.
