The First Art & Vision Certain Unit, which is co-hosted by the BJIFF, Wonderland and ARTnews Chinese Edition, will be launched in late April 2024 in Beijing. The film unit, as the first of its kind in China focusing on the development of commercial art short films, is now calling for entries from all over the world.

Wonderland and ARTnews Chinese Edition, the unit is designed to explore and showcase the creativity and aesthetic expression of films, and select and honor potential filmmakers and their works each year through well-planned film screenings and cross-cultural exchange activities. These activities will not only provide rich viewing experiences and profound industry discussions, but also facilitate the expansion of creative thinking and the birth of new works. The unit will allow viewers from home and abroad as well as professionals in art and fashion fields to better understand the charm of commercial art short films.

Submission Requirements

1.The film was released after June 30, 2022;

2.The film duration should be within 15 minutes, including complete opening, closing and cast & crew credits;

3. All submissions should be marked with “Preview for Art & Vision Certain Unit” in the upper right corner, and the screen content must not have any other watermarks, so as to avoid affecting the review results;

4. The format requirement of preview version: MP4 or MOV format with H.264 encoding and the size of less than 1G;

5. The film should be embedded with both Chinese and English subtitles.

Selection Setting:

The Jury of Art & Vision Certain Unit will select 10-15 shortlisted short films, including art micro-films, commercial fashion short films, art advertisements and other types of short films. These films will eventually compete for eight honors from multiple dimensions, fields and perspectives through preliminary, secondary and final reviews:

Honoring the best out of the shortlisted works of the year featuring high consistency in expression, form and style with the original work, realization of both author consciousness and completeness, and unity of text value and audio-visual language.

▪ BEST CREATIVE AWARD

Honoring the best out of the shortlisted works of the year boasting a rich storyline, a smooth structure, a unique narrative perspective and a profound theme. 　

▪ BEST ARTISTIC AWARD

Honoring the best out of the shortlisted works of the year showcasing a high degree of artistry and creativity in terms of video, music, art, photography, etc.

▪ BEST DIRECTOR AWARD

Honoring the best director out of the nominees of the year possessing the outstanding ability, superior consciousness, unique aesthetics and courage to explore various aesthetic styles.

▪ BEST VISUAL AWARD

Honoring the best out of the shortlisted works of the year excelling in visual design, artistic style, color use and overall aesthetic innovation.

▪ BEST ORIGINAL SCORE AWARD

Honoring the best out of the shortlisted works of the year excelling in composition, arrangement and recording of musical works.

▪ JURY RECOMMENDATION AWARD

Honoring works out of the shortlisted works of the year providing creative solutions and outstanding performances in photography, art, sound, design, editing or any other technical link.

▪ AUDIENCE AWARD

Honoring works that have been widely recognized and loved by viewers at the screening phase.

This year's Art & Vision Certain Unit encourages filmmakers to create more contents for brands, arts and public culture under new rules of the game, and shape the freedom of the art landscape.

How to Apply

1. Send the following materials to the solicitation email, artunit@sg.com.cn:

(1) Email subject and film naming method: film title + creators’ names;

(2) Text content: Film title, creators’ names, contact information, duration and introduction;

(3) The work is attached to the text as an attachment or a permanent download link;

(4) Please provide director photos and film stills in jpg format, with the size of less than 2M each;

2. The registration time shall be subject to the receipt time, and the organizer will inform the entry information by email.

Application Notes

1. There is no registration fee or limit to the number of submissions;

2. The applicant must be the owner/copyright holder of the entry, and has obtained the legal licensing of the sound materials, moving images, special effects assets, texts, character authorization and other elements used in the film. If there is any infringement in the film itself, the organizer will reserve the right to disqualify it from the competition. Any third-party disputes arising therefrom shall be borne by the applicant/film producer;

 3. The applicant must authorize the organizer to engage in the promotion of this work on the official platform and website of the event and other non-commercial activities, so as to ensure the success of selection and honor night activities;

4. After the official shortlisting, the applicant shall provide the organizer with a copy of the film in standard screening format and materials that meet the printing specifications as required by the organizer in a timely manner.
