Jian Hongcheng (played by Lei Jiayin), the son of Jian Zhiguo who was the director of the Secondary Agricultural Machinery Factory in Linshui City, fell in love with a gentle and beautiful girl named Ning You (played by Yuan Quan) at first sight in college. Though being rejected many times by Ning You, his affection never went away until she’s married after graduation. In the early years, Jian Zhiguo was stabbed by his employee Cui Hao over an argument, which made his health condition far worse than before. In order to pass the contract right of the factory down to Jian Hongcheng, Jian Zhiguo forced his daughter Jian Minmin (played by Luo Haiqiong) to marry his apprentice Zhang Lixin (played by Liang Guanhua), expecting that the son-in-law can take care of the factory on behalf of his young son. However, Zhang Lixin took over the factory and forced Jian Hongcheng to leave his hometown after his father’s death. Years later, Ning You divorced her husband for his infidelity. Hearing that Zhang Lixin was going to sell the old factory land to pay off his debts, Jian Hongcheng who had started from scratch could not bear his father's efforts going down the drain and returned to his hometown to defend the land. It leaded to his reunion with Ning You, which also revealed the reason why he got rejected--she was Cui Hao's daughter. While Jian Hongcheng handled the mess left by Zhang Lixin in accordance with law and principles, Ning You's younger brother Ning Shu (played by Zhang Yixing) kept getting in the way. Jian Hongcheng and Ning You worked together to keep them from making troubles. Faced with so many trivial matters, the two shared the pain and challenges of middle age, while they also got a chance to know each other again and figure out the life they want.
