Zhongshan and Dongguan are both ancient cities located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which are famous for the manufacturing industry. Notably, Dongguan is known as the “factory of the world”. Meanwhile, these two cities are home to numerous masters of traditional craftsmanship such as embroidery, red sandalwood carving, pottery, Aquilaria Sinensis Gilg, One-Thousand-Angle Light, and Qingxi Kylin. They have dedicated their whole life to one area of art and have spent years perfecting their techniques. They create things with their hands and perceive the world with their hearts. However, these great masters are threatened by the facts that traditional skills are on the wane and that they could be replaced by machines. Nowadays, how could they endeavor to sustain their craftsmanship and promote the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in modern manufacturing cities.
