In order to strengthen the work of film and television translation and actively promote the dissemination of excellent Chinese culture overseas, a salon on "Audiovisual Translation and International Communication" was successfully held in the afternoon of April 15, 2023 under the guidance of the Broadcasting and Film Development Research Center of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. More than 100 people attended the salon, including the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television Broadcasting Development Research Centre, the Film and Television Translation and Communication Committee of the China Radio and Television Federation, Global International Video News Agency Limited, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Besteasy Language Export Base, and other participants discussed the hot issues of film and television translation and international communication.

In his speech, Zhu Yinnan, Director of the Broadcasting and Film Development Research Centre of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, stressed that film and television translation is a link and bridge for international communication, and that translation centres must play the spirit of craftsmanship and use the narrative method of the Chinese language to spread culture. While benchmarking with international standards, the centre must focus on the "letter and elegance" of translation, convey Chinese culture and Chinese characteristics, tell Chinese stories in Chinese language and perspective, and at the same time pay attention to safeguarding national security. At present, the responsibility of film and television translation has a long way to go, and it is necessary to gather the strength of all parties to take up the important task of the country's culture going abroad.

Li Changbang, Vice President of the School of Advanced Translation at Beijing Foreign Studies University, spoke on the topic of 'Understanding, Expression and Adaptation in Subtitle Translation'. Li Changbao said that artificial intelligence can greatly improve translation efficiency and translators should make good use of it, especially the language editing function of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence technologies to improve the authenticity of foreign language expressions. The guests also exchanged views with Vice President Li Changbang on the topic of new technology and traditional translation.

Meanwhile, Felix, Technical Director of Besteasy Language Export Base, shared specific applications of AI technology in the field of language translation.

In the roundtable discussion session, the participating experts discussed in depth the development situation of film and television translation, the future talent training and discipline system, the strengthening of oral image translation, as well as the future trends and countermeasure suggestions of film and television translation and dissemination.
